Born in attention

I recently discovered the new website from the guys who started the thousands sub culture guides. the internetworks.
in a nut shell the site "asks the people who inspire us to document the things that inspire them."
Jonathan Zawada posted a great video of Milton Glaser talking about illustration & inspiration - extremely hypnotic to watch. I like how Milton discusses the concept that drawing is thinking and how conscious you become when you are drawing.. I read the same thing last night in a book that says 'Art is born in attention' and that any act that focuses your attention so acutely is helping build you creative muscles. Einstein asked "Why do I get my best ideas in the shower?" because showering is a regular repetitive activity that tips us over from our logical brain into our more creative artist brain.
Which explains that trance like feeling that I get when I'm channeling a creative idea or thought process.

Mapping

As I continue on my crafty quest (somewhat alone) it's nice to see others that are taking the medium out of the 'nanna-esque' realm and putting it firmly into a contemporary artistic context. Ian Hundley transforms aerial view maps into large scale quilts.. check out this video of his stuff on Cool Hunting.

here is also a link to his Brooklyn apartment in The Selby
